Jade Chapter (Yupian) defines it as a yellow and white horse. Erya (Erya), Explanation of Domestic Animals (Shichu) states: A yellow and white horse is called huang. Commentary: A mixture of yellow and white colors. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), the character for imperial (huang) is borrowed for this term. Correct Character Guide (Zhengzitong) notes: Originally written with ten strokes, the common version simplified the radical to white. Another variant is also used.
