Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): Undiluted wine.
History of the Former Han (Hanshu), Biography of Cao Can: Those who came all wished to speak, but whenever someone arrived, Can would have them drink undiluted wine. Commentary: Undiluted wine means thick, unmixed wine.
History of the Later Han (Houhanshu), Biography of Liu Penzi: Then added more brewing of undiluted wine.
Also means to specialize (zhuan).
Also means pure and clear.
Xi Kang, Discourse on Nourishing Life (Yangsheng Lun): The spirit and vital energy are manifest purely in their unmixed whiteness.
Also means thick or honest.
History of the Former Han (Hanshu), Annals of Emperor Jing: As for shifting customs and changing habits, the common people were honest and simple.
Laozi, Classic of the Way and Virtue (Daodejing): His governance is indulgent, and his people are simple and honest. Commentary: His governance and teachings are broad and generous, and the people are simple, honest, and wealthy, mutually harmonious and affectionate.

Book of Changes (Yijing), Appended Statements: Heaven and Earth are integrated, and the ten thousand things transform into a refined state. Commentary: The ten thousand things change and become refined.

Also History of the Former Han (Hanshu), Treatise on Rites and Music: The Yellow River dragon provides carp as a pure sacrificial animal. Commentary: Shigu says that pure means the color is not mixed.
Also History of the Former Han (Hanshu), Treatise on Food and Money: The Son of Heaven cannot provide a team of four horses of the same color.
