Also refers to high ground within water. In the Book of Odes (Shijing): The great-grandson's granaries are like hills and mounds. In the Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan): The Marquis of Jin and the Marquis of Qi were feasting, with Zhonghang Muzi in attendance, playing the game of pitch-pot. The Marquis of Jin threw first, and Muzi said: With wine as abundant as the Huai River, and meat piled like a small hill.

In the Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan): Caimo discussed the official who kept dragons, stating that if an official remains in his post for a long time, the creature will arrive, but if he abandons it, the creature will hide and remain unseen. Also refers to a site. In the Dialect (Fangyan): In the regions of Liang and Song, the mounds of earth created by ants and field mice tunneling are called chi.
Pronounced ci. Refers to a hillside. People in the region of Qin call a hillside a chi. In the Western Capital Rhapsody (Xijing Fu): The hillsides rise high to form peaks. Sometimes also written in a variant form (chi).
