Guangyun (Guangyun): Pronounced zhu. The name of a tree. Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): In the front mountains, there are many zhu trees. Guo commentary: Also written as chu; it resembles the sawtooth oak (zuo), its seeds are edible, and it remains green in winter and summer. Used for house pillars, as it is difficult to rot. Sima Xiangru, Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park (Shanglin Fu): Sha tang, li, and zhu trees. Li Shan commentary: The zhu resembles the eurya (ling). Collected Essentials of Materia Medica (Bencao Shiyi): The seeds of the zhu grow in the south of the Yangtze River; its bark and tree resemble the chestnut, it does not wither in winter, and its seeds are small like acorns. Food Materia Medica (Shiwu Bencao): There are bitter and sweet varieties; when processed into flour for food, it is brownish in color and very good.
