Shuowen (Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters) states it refers to the columns at the front of a hall. Guangya (Expanded Encyclopedia) states that ying is a column. Book of Han (Hanshu), Annals of Emperor Cheng, states that rotten wood cannot be used to make a column. There is also Dǐzhù, which is the name of a mountain. Book of Documents (Shujing), Tribute of Yu (Yugong), states that it reaches Dǐzhù to the east. There are also titles such as Shangzhuguo and Zhuxiashi, both of which are official titles. Strategies of the Warring States (Zhanguoce) states that the noble rank is zhigui and the official title is zhuguo. Hanguanyi (Ceremonies of the Han Officials) states that the Gentleman of the Palace (shiyushi) is called Zhuxiashi. Book of Han (Hanshu), Records on Rites and Music (Liyuezhi), states that there are two officials for zhugong. The commentary states that the zhugong is an official in charge of the bridges (zhu) of zithers and lutes. Furthermore, Ying Shao states that the legal cap worn by the Zhuxiashi is also called zhuhou, which uses iron to make the pillar. Cai Yong, Duduǎn (Deciding Matters), states it is called the zhuhou huiwen cap.
Pronounced zhu. Zhufu is the name of a plant. Erya (Approaching Elegance), Interpretation of Grasses, states that zhufu is the same as the yaoju plant.
Pronounced zhu. It is interchangeable with the character meaning to prop up or support. Book of Han (Hanshu), Biography of Zhu Yun, states that he refuted Lord Wulu in succession. It also carries the meaning of supporting. Han Yu, Tomb Inscription of Wang Shi, states that a tripod cannot be used to support a cart, and a horse cannot be used to guard the gate of a neighborhood.
