Broad Rhymes (Guangyun): Pronounced zhu. A type of tree.
Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanjaijing): In the front mountains, the trees are mostly zhu trees.
Guo Commentary (Guozhu): Sometimes written as chu, resembling an oak tree; the fruit is edible and the tree remains evergreen in both winter and summer. It is used as a pillar for houses because it does not rot easily.
Sima Xiangru, Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park (Shanglinfu): Sandalwood, cork oak, and zhu.
Li Shan Commentary (Lishanzhu): The zhu tree is similar to the ling tree.
Supplement to the Materia Medica (Bencaoshiyi): The zhu nut grows in the region south of the Yangtze River. The bark resembles that of a chestnut tree, it does not shed leaves in winter, and the fruit is smaller than an acorn.
Materia Medica of Food (Shiwubencao): There are both bitter and sweet varieties; when processed into flour, it is edible, turns brown, and is excellent.
