Notes and Commentaries on the Erya (Erya zhushu): This insect resembles a centipede, is yellow in color and slender, and is known as the tongue-protruding insect. According to the Regional Dialects (Fangyan): The house centipede is known as yin in regions east of Hangu Pass, or as ear-entering, or as, or as fuyu in the Zhao and Wei regions, as ni in the northern Yan region, and as qiong among the people of Jiangdong; these all refer to the modern house centipede, an insect that likes to crawl into ears.
Materia Medica (Bencao): The house centipede is over an inch long and curls into a ring when it dies.
Wang Yi, Nine Longings (Jiusi): There are house centipedes in the alley.
