Sometimes written as a variant form (shuo). In the Book of Changes (Yijing), Benefit hexagram: The people are joyous without limit. In the Joyous hexagram: Joyfully leading the people. In the Analects (Lunyu): Is it not a joy?
Master Mao says: In ancient times, it was used interchangeably with the character for speech or to explain. Later generations created the character yue to distinguish it. It is also written as due. In the Book of Rites (Liji), Record of Learning (Xueji): The charge of Due says: Constantly reflect on the beginning and the end while engaged in learning.
