In the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced yi (falling tone). In the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced yi (falling tone). According to the Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters (Shuowen), it is written as yi. It is the name of an ancient feudal lord, the Wind of Yi (Yi Feng), under the influence of feathers. Another source states it is a master of archery. In the Five Classics Script (Wujing Wenzi), the clerical script simplified form is yi. In the Book of Documents (Shujing), specifically the Song of the Five Sons, it mentions the lord of the Youqiong tribe, Hou Yi. Note: The Zhengzitong states that there is another character under this entry, but that character has already been included in the Bow (gōng) radical section as a duplicate entry; it has been deleted here.
