As defined in the Shuo Wen Jie Zi (Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters), it means to pull. According to the Guang Yun (Broad Rhymes), it means to drag or draw. As stated in the Xunzi (Master Xun), Non-Physiognomy chapter: When receiving people, one uses a dragging motion. The commentary explains this as pulling and guiding them toward oneself. Also, pronounced ye (entering tone). It means to drag or pull along. Sometimes also written in a variant form (zhuai). Also, pronounced she (entering tone). Equivalent to the character die.
