Explanation from Shuowen: It is qi (spirit/breath). It is composed of the semantic component xi and the phonetic component yi.
Also, Fu Xi (伏羲), Da Hao (大皡), the first of the Three Sovereigns. According to the Book of Changes (Yijing), it is written as Bao Xi (包犧). Shiben states that Bao is also written as Pao (庖), and Mengjing writes it as Fu (伏). The character Xi (犧) is also written as Xi (羲), and Mengjing writes it as Xi (戲).
Also, in the Book of Documents (Shujing), "Yao Dian" chapter: "Then he ordered Xi and He." Commentary: Descendants of Chongli, the Xi clan and the He clan, who held the offices of Heaven, Earth, and the Four Seasons throughout generations.
Also, a surname. According to Fengsu Tong, it is from the descendants of Yao's minister Xi Zhong.
