Pronounced xi. Broad Elegant (Guangyun). Sounded xi (Jiyun, Yunhui). Sounded xi (Zhengyun). In the Erh Ya (Boya), it means to play. In the Extended Rhymes (Zengyun), it means beautiful, or to roam. In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Biography of Confucius: He played at arranging the sacrificial vessels. In the History of the Former Han (Qianhan), Annals of Emperor Wen: Men of seventy or eighty years of age, playing like small children. In Zhang Xie's Seven Commands (Qiming): Riding in a bird-shaped boat to engage in water play.
Also pronounced xi (Jiyun, Yunhui, Zhengyun). In the miscellaneous poetry of Bai Juyi: The rippling waters of the nine-fold pool, winding for more than ten miles.
