In the Tribute of Yu (Yugong) section of the Book of Documents (Shujing), it is recorded: The Wei and Zi rivers have their paths. The Geography Treatise of the History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu) states: The river emerges from Jiwu Mountain in Langye, flows north to Duchang County, and enters the sea. It is also the name of a county. According to the Comprehensive Geography Record (Guangyuji), Wei County belongs to Laizhou Prefecture; it was originally the territory of Jiaodong during the Han Dynasty, Beihai during the Sui Dynasty, and Weizhou during the Tang Dynasty.
