Wu describes the appearance of a mountain. One account states it refers to the appearance of a bare mountain.
Tang Dynasty poet Yuan Jie in Music Bureau (Yuefu): The mountain stands bare and rising, the water ripples in waves.
Also, Five Wu is the name of a mountain located in Qianwei Commandery. It is a single mountain with five tiers, hence the name.
Zuo Si in Rhapsody on the Capital of Shu (Shudu Fu): Treading upon the five tiers of Wu.
