Pronounced wei. Also written as the character for danger (wei). Sanwei is the name of a mountain. It is also used interchangeably with the character for danger (wei).
Book of Documents (Shangshu), chapter Tribute of Yu (Yugong) records: Sanwei is already occupied.
Commentary (Shu) explains: Mount Sanwei is located west of Mount Niaoshu, near the mountains, where the Black River flows from its south side. This is where the ancient Sanmiao tribe lived.
History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Biography of the Western Qiang (Xiqiang zhuan) records: Mount Sanwei is located to the southeast of the city of Dunhuang in Shazhou; because the mountain has three high peaks, it is called Sanwei.
Also pronounced wei. Used to describe the appearance of a mountain. Interchangable with the characters for high mountain (wei) and towering mountain (wei).
Also pronounced jue. Used to describe a mountain that is high and steep. Sometimes also written in a variant form (zhuan) using the character for tall (wu).
Textual Research: In the Book of Documents (Shangshu), chapter Tribute of Yu (Yugong), the text originally read Sanwei achieved results. It has been corrected to Sanwei is already occupied according to the original text.
