Annotation: Currently known as the small fish that blows sand, its body is circular and marked with spotted patterns. Correction of Characters (Zhengzitong): Tuo is another name for the small sand shark. Explaining Writing and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) incorrectly identifies tuo as the sheatfish and treats the yan fish as the tuo. See the detailed entry under the yan fish for further information. Also, Illustrated Classic of Materia Medica (Bencao Tujing): The tuo fish lives in mud holes along the shores of lakes. Its shape resembles a gecko but it is larger, reaching over one zhang in length, with scales and armor on its back and tail.
