Pronounced qi
Book of Erya (Erya), section on insects, records the term qiangqi. Commentary explains this as qiangchoulv. Sub-commentary further explains: Qiang is the name of an insect, which is also called qi. This insect likes to rub its body and belongs to the fly family. The Correct Character Guide (Zhengzitong) states that in the Guangdong region it is called cattle of the rice, and in the Shaoxing region it is called elephant of the rice. Additionally, the Long Notes on the Analysis of Characters (Shuowen Changjian) records that the praying mantis has another name, qifu.
