Pronounced qi
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it is the navel.
According to the Correct Meaning Through Research (Zhengzitong), this is the part connecting a newborn infant to the mother. After being cut, it is called the umbilical cord. Because it is located between the heart and the kidneys, directly opposite the Shenque acupoint in front and the Mingmen acupoint behind, it is called the navel. It also carries the meaning of restriction or boundary.
According to the Explaining Names (Shiming), the navel is the limit; it is the boundary that marks the end of the intestinal tract.
According to the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), it is interchangeable with the character meaning even or uniform (qi).
Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan), Sixth Year of Duke Zhuang: If one does not plan early, eventually the ruler will be unable to bite his own navel.
Commentary: Here, the character meaning even or uniform (qi) has the same meaning as the navel (qi).
