Pronounced qi. According to the Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Graphs and Analysis of Characters), qiqi refers to the appearance of an insect walking. In the Rhapsody on the Bamboo Flute (Dongxiao Fu) by Wang Bao, it is written: Walking and breathing. The commentary states that the movement of all living creatures is called qiqi. In the Rhapsody on Heaven and Earth (Tiandi Fu) by Cheng Gong-sui, it is written: Walking and wriggling, gathering in groups and separating into classes.
Also the name of an insect. In the Commentary on the Past and Present (Gujin Zhu), it is noted that the long-legged insect is the cellar spider, which has a small body and long legs, hence it is called long-legged insect.
Pronounced qi (falling tone). Also the appearance of an insect walking.
Pronounced qi. The meaning is the same. According to the Classified Chapters (Lei Pian), it is interchangeable with the character meaning to walk on tiptoe.
