Wei Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Silk (mì) Character: Qi Kangxi Stroke Count: 14 Page 926, Entry 40 According to the Extensive Rhyme (Guangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is qi. According to the Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters (Shuowen), it refers to a pale greenish-gray silk. Another definition is not borrowed. Note that older editions mistakenly wrote the character as shown. It has been corrected here. The Collected Rhymes states that the character may also be written using the element for its phonetic. The original form of this character is written with the element for a field (tian) and a related component, not with the element for yield (bi).
