Tang Rhyme (Tángyùn): pronounced mò jīng qiè. Jiyun (Jíyùn), Yunhui (Yùnhuì): pronounced máng jīng qiè, with the sound míng.
Name of a city. "They attacked the three gates of Méng" — Zuo Commentary (Zuǒzhuàn), Duke Xi 2nd Year. Note: Méng was a city of the state of Yu. Also, "The Duke met the Jin army at Shangméng" — Zuo Commentary (Zuǒzhuàn), Duke Cheng 2nd Year. Note: A place name. Missing. According to the Book of the Later Han (Hòuhàn), Treatise on Commanderies and Kingdoms (Jùnguózhì), there was Méngjù. The note states: Fu Qian (Fú Qián) said: a secondary capital of the state of Jin. The Record of Myriad Things (Bówùzhì) says: The feudal lords met at Míngtíng, which was likely a place in the state of Jin. It is probable that after Jin annihilated Yu, this place came under Jin's control. Therefore, the Explanations of Characters (Shuōwén Jiézì) directly considers Méng to be a place in Jin, no longer tracing its original identity as a city of the state of Yu.
