According to the Correct Character Guide (Zhengzitong), the Outer Objects chapter of the Book of Zhuangzi (Zhuangzi) states that eyes that are thorough are described as ming. It is not intended to be a separate character from ming, which is composed of sun and moon to represent brightness. It carries the meaning of bright eyes, which is identical in meaning to the brightness of sun and moon. Tian Yiheng states that in ancient times, all were written as sun and moon together. It was not until the Han Dynasty that the form using the eye radical was used. The Broad Rimes (Guangyun) and the Rime Summary (Libu Yunlue) do not include this character. The Correct Rimes (Zhengyun) follows the errors found in the Jade Chapter (Yupian) and the Collection of Rimes (Jiyun) by splitting ming and this character into two, which is incorrect.
