From the Ocean Rhapsody (Haifu) by Mu Hua: Floating on the sea and crossing over mountains. Also interchangeable with the character meaning to bind (leng). According to the Literary Expositor (Erya), entry on the explanation of words, it means to tremble. The commentary notes that it means to fear and tremble. The sub-commentary states that Cang (a scholar) says it means to tremble. Guo (Pu) says that it means to fear and tremble, therefore the sound and meaning of this character and the variant are the same. Also a river name.
