According to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced tai (level tone), and its meaning is the same as the name Tai.
The Book of Han (Qian Hanshu), section on Geography, records that in the Youfufeng region there is a place called Tai, which was the fief of Houji, the progenitor of the Zhou dynasty. The commentary notes that the character is equivalent to Tai.
Regarding the Dictionary of Characters (Zihui), it provides an alternative pronunciation as li (level tone), explaining it as the term for a yak, but this is incorrect. The Compilation of Rhymes records that the character for yak is written with the ox radical. The character for plow is written with the profit radical, which is the bottom component of the character for plow.
