Dictionary of the Five Sounds (Wuyin Jiyun) and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui) state it means the crushing of a carriage.
In the Biography of Guan Fu in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu), it refers to crushing and trampling the imperial clan. The commentary explains this as trampling. The Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji) uses the character ling (to insult/bully). It is also used interchangeably with ling (to insult/bully).
In the Annals of Emperor Hui of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu), it refers to bullying and trampling upon border officials.
