Bencao (Materia Medica) states it is also known as eastern lodging and also known as continuous worm land.
Additionally, according to the commentary by Guo Pu on the Fangyan (Regional Speech) by Yangzi, rouli is a vegetable. It is also a type of perilla.
Furthermore, according to the Shuowen (Explanation of Characters), pronounced li. It is a type of grass.
According to the Qimin Yaoshu (Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People), the Zilin (Forest of Characters) states: The li plant resembles winter indigo; it may be steamed and eaten.
