Si Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Cow (niú) Character: Qú Kangxi strokes: 24 Page 705, Entry 22 Broad Rhymes (Guangyun): Pronounced kuí Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui): Pronounced kuí Broad Rhymes (Guangyun): The quniu (a type of ox) originates from Min Mountain. Commentary on the Explication of Domestic Animals (Erya Shixu): According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing), many quniu oxen are found on Min Mountain. Note: Today in Shu, there is a large ox weighing several thousand catties called the quniu. In the first year of the Taihing era of the Jin dynasty, this ox appeared in Shangyong Commandery. People shot it with a crossbow and obtained thirty piculs of meat; this is the same as the niu ox mentioned in the Erya. Editorial Note: Currently, the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing) writes this character as kui. Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun) gives the pronunciation as kui. The Zhengzitong erroneously writes it as the form presented here. This has now been corrected to follow the original radical form.
