Radical: Long (cháng)
Entry: 镼
Kangxi strokes: 16
Page 1329, Entry 29
Correct Standard (Zhengzitong): Pronounced qu.
Book of the Later Han (Houhan shu), Biography of Emperor Guangwu: Mentions "various embroidered 镼." Commentary: The character 镼 is not included in standard character dictionaries; in the Sequel to the Book of the Han (Xu Hanshu) it is written as a variant, pronounced qi.
In his work Dialects (Fangyan), Yang Xiong states: Regarding the garment known as chanyi, the short version is called by this variant name in the regions west of Hangu Pass. Guo Pu comments that it is colloquially known as ye. From this, it is understood that 镼 refers to embroidery added to a zhuyu garment, similar to a modern short-sleeved jacket.
Extensive Records (Guangji) records that Han Jingong saw a youth wearing a single-layered unlined garment. In Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang (Youyang zazu), it is written as 镼.
