Account of Strange Matters (Shuyiji): People of the Huaihai region call the suojie a crab slave.
Guo Pu, Rhapsody on the Yangtze River (Jiangfu): Suojie, the crab within the belly. Note: Southern Yue Records (Nanyuezhi) states the suojie is over an inch long, with larger specimens reaching two to three inches. It carries a small crab in its belly, resembling an elm seed; they exist as a combined body, both feeding off what the jie catches.
Supplement to the Collection of Characters (Zihuibu): According to the Han Statutes, Kuaiji Commandery presented jie sauce.
