According to the Standard Character Compendium (Zhengzitong), it is identical to the character for muscle.
As stated in the Huainan Masters: Responses of the Dao (Huainanzi Daoyingxun), one can judge a fine horse by observing its physical appearance, muscles, and bones.
Furthermore, later generations mistakenly wrote it as the character for a weight unit (jin).
As recorded in the Old Book of Tang (Jiu Tangshu), when burning lime to produce salt, every stone of lime yields twelve jin and one liang of salt.
In the Rhapsody on the Golden Elixir (Jindan Fu) by Ge Changgeng, it refers to the weight of medicinal materials.
Note: In the History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu), section on the Biography of Merchants (Huozhichuan), the original text used the character for a weight unit, and this form is considered the standard.
