According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), Collection Rhyme (Jiyun), and Classification of Characters (Leipian), it is pronounced zun. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to using firewood or timber to block the flow of water. It is also the name of a type of tree. Furthermore, according to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun) and Correct Rhyme (Zhengyun), and also the Collection Rhyme (Jiyun) and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), it is pronounced jian. It refers to an implement for catching fish. As mentioned in the Rhapsody on the Yangtze River (Jiang Fu) by Guo Pu, it is used to dam water. See the commentary on the entry for jian. Also, according to the Erudite Refinements (Boya), it refers to a fence on the ground. According to the Extended Rhyme (Guangyun), it means to surround. In the Zuo Tradition (Zuo Zhuan), under the eighth year of Duke Ai, it describes being imprisoned on a pavilion and surrounded by thorns. Additionally, Sima Guang states: the character is pronounced cun. The current Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun) does not include this entry. Textual Research: In the Rhapsody on the Yangtze River (Jiang Fu) by Guo Pu, the original text used a different character which has been corrected to this character. In the Zuo Tradition (Zuo Zhuan), under the tenth year of Duke Xiang, regarding being imprisoned on a pavilion and surrounded by thorns, the original citation of the tenth year of Duke Xiang has been corrected to the eighth year of Duke Ai.
