According to the Jiyun (Jíyùn) and Yunhui (Yùnhuì), the pronunciation is "qì lì qiè" (a Fanqie spelling); according to the Zhengyun (Zhèngyùn), it is "jū lì qiè" (a Fanqie spelling), sounding like "jí". The Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén Jiězì) defines it as a personal name. Confucius' (Kǒng Fūzǐ) grandson Kong Ji (Kǒng Jí) had the courtesy name Zisi (Zǐsī). In the Han Dynasty, there was Guo Ji (Guō Jí). Also, according to the Jiyun, it is pronounced "jí rù qiè" (a Fanqie spelling), sounding like "jí". Jiji (Jíjí) describes a deceptive or dishonest appearance.
