According to the Extensive Dictionary of Refinements (Guangya), it is a long jacket. According to the Explanation of Names (Shiming), the upper garment worn by women is called gui; the part that hangs down is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, shaped like a medicinal spatula. According to the Record of Empresses in the Book of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), her hairpins and earrings were radiant, and her gui robes were bright. According to the Rhapsody on Dance by Fu Yi, the magnificent gui garments and ribbons fluttered, interspersed with delicate gauze.
