Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), Spring Offices: In all dances, there is the cloth-ribbon dance. Commentary: The cloth-ribbon is made of split five-colored silk; it is what the children holding them use in the Spirit Star dance today.
Also, it means down or fine hair.
Yang Xiong's Dialects (Fangyan): Cloth-ribbon strands, meaning down. In the Jing and Yang regions between the rivers and lakes, it is called yu-pu; in Chu it is called [variant form], and between the states of Song, Zheng, and Wei, it is called cloth-ribbon strands.

Shuowen Jiezi: A single width of cloth.
