Book of Documents (Shujing), chapter "No Idleness" (Wuyi) states: From morning until the sun reaches the middle of the day, it is called yi. The Commentary (Zhuan) states: From morning until the sun reaches the position of yi. The Sub-commentary (Shu) states: Yi is also called yi, referring to the sun beginning to decline and set, which is the time of the un-period (from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM). Book of Han (Hanshu), "Biographies of Wandering Knights" (Youxia Zhuan) states: They all gathered by the time the sun had reached the position of yi.
