Guangyun (Guangyun), Jiyun (Jiyun), and Yunhui (Yunhui) define it as pronounced pu (falling tone). It is the same as the variant form bu. The Yupian (Yupian) defines it as fear. In the Biography of Diwu Lun of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), it is written: The shamans and sorcerers rely on ghosts and spirits to deceitfully frighten the ignorant populace.
Additionally, in the Zhengyun (Zhengyun), it is defined as pronounced bo (falling tone), and also as pronounced bu. The meaning is the same. Note: The character pu belongs to the p-initial category, while the character bo belongs to the b-initial category; this reflects a slight difference between northern and southern pronunciations.
