Pronounced bi.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to a fragrant scent. As stated in the Book of Odes (Shijing), the fragrant aroma of filial sacrifice. In the Record of Rites by Dai the Elder (Da Dai Liji), it is written: when traveling with a virtuous person, it is as fragrant as entering a room filled with orchids.
Also refers to a plant name. In a poem by Lu Guimeng, it is described as: the islands under the sun are clear, and smoke rises from the emerald-green aromatic plants.
Also pronounced bie. It refers to a type of vegetable.
According to the Comprehensive Mirror of History (Gangmu Jilan), there were fifteen tribes including the Qibi among the Tujue people.
According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), this is the same as the character mi.
Correction: In the Record of Rites by Dai the Elder (Da Dai Liji), the text should read: as fragrant as entering a room filled with orchids. Per the original text, the word as has been added after the word fragrant.
