Pronounced pì biàn qiè in "Tang Yun" and "Ji Yun", and pí miàn qiè in "Zheng Yun", similar to "biàn".
In "Guang Yun", it is explained as a county name. "Kuo Dì Zhì" records: Sishui County in Yanzhou was originally the territory of Bian County in the Han Dynasty.
Also in "Ji Yun", it is explained as impatient or hasty. "Zuo Zhuan - Duke Ding Year 3" records: Duke Zhuang of Zou was impatient and fond of cleanliness.
Also in "Yu Pian", it is explained as law or rule. "Shang Shu - Gu Ming" records: Governing the world of the Zhou Dynasty, following the great law.
Also explained as a surname. "Guang Yun" records: The surname Bian originated from Jiyin. It was originally descendants of Cao Shuzhenduo of the Zhou Dynasty, who were enfeoffed in the territory of Bian, and thus established their clan.
Also pronounced pú guān qiè in "Ji Yun", similar to "pán". It is interchangeable with the character "bān". "Er Ya - Shi Zheng" explains it as joy. Sometimes also written as "biàn".
