In the Book of Odes (Shijing), praise of Lu, it is written: Early-planted and late-planted beans and wheat. The commentary states: That which is planted first is called zhi, and that which is planted later is called zhi. Also, according to Explaining Names (Shiming), in the regions of Qing and Xu, the eldest daughter-in-law is called zhichang. Grain sprouts that emerge first are called zhi, and the name is derived from this. Furthermore, in Collected Rimes (Jiyun), pronounced shi. The meaning is the same.
