Also, in ancient times, stone was used as a zhen to pierce and treat illness.
History of the Former Han Dynasty (Qianhan Shu), Treatise on Literature (Yiwenzhi): The use of zhen stones and heat treatments. Commentary: Zhen is what is used to pierce and treat illness. Stone refers to bian stones, which are stone needles.
Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): Mount Gao has much jade above and much zhen stone below. Commentary: It can be used as a whetstone or needle to treat carbuncles and swellings.
