Pronounced yin.
According to the Shuowen Jiezi (Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters), it is a silverfish. According to the Erya (Approaching Elegance), section on insects, the yin is a silverfish. The commentary notes it is an insect found in clothing and books, also known as the bookfish. According to the Erya Yi (Wings of the Erya), the yin starts out yellow, but as it matures, its body becomes covered in powder, which appears silver, hence the name silverfish.
Also pronounced tan. The meaning is the same.
Also pronounced xun. Meaning the appearance of movement. According to the Biography of Ma Rong in the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), it describes movement. According to the Nine Sighs (Jiusi) by Wang Yi, it is described as such.
