According to Guangyun (Guangyun), Jiyun (Jiyun), and Yunhui (Yunhui), the pronunciation is derived from the fanqie method of yu-feng, sounding similar to yong.
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen Jiezi) defines it as a state of southern ethnic minorities. Also, Jiyun states it is a place name within the vicinity of the capital of King Zhou of Shang. For details, refer to the commentary for the character bei.
Also refers to a city wall. In the Zuo Zhuan (Zuo Zhuan), twenty-first year of Duke Zhao, the state of Song rebuilt the city wall of old Yong. The commentary notes: Old Yong refers to an old city.
Also used as a surname. According to Zhengzitong (Zhengzitong), after the state of Yong perished, its descendants adopted the state's name as their surname.
