Records of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguozhi), Commentary by Pei Songzhi: During the Chuping era, a man called Mr. Green Ox resided in the Sanfu region. He often ate qingxiang and yuanhua, and appeared to be a man of fifty or sixty years of age.
Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People (Qimin Yaoshu): The roots of the xiang plant can be made into pickles; the taste is pungent and spicy.
Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Classified Chapters (Leipian): Both write this as rang.
Textual research: The original text cites the Biography of Pei Songzhi in the Records of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguozhi). Upon verification, there is no Biography of Pei Songzhi; it is actually a commentary by Pei Songzhi within the Biography of Guan You'an. Following the original book, the reference is corrected from Biography to Commentary, and yuanhua is corrected from the previous erroneous character.
