Explication of Written Characters (Shuowen Jiezi): The Xie River joins the Xun Wave in Bo'an County, Jiujiang, and flows north into the Di region.
Commentary on the Water Classic (Shuijing): The Xie River originates in Bo'an County and flows north past Que Lake, entering the Huai River from the northwest.
Annotation: Bo'an County is the same as Bo'xiang County recorded in the Treatise on Geography (Dilizhi).
Also refers to dispersing or scattering.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes (Daya): "To allow the people's sorrows to be dispersed."
