According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is defined as the omasum of a cow. The Extensive Rhyme (Guangyun) refers to the muscular part of the stomach. The Classification Dictionary (Leipian) cites the scholar Fu Qian: animals with horns have xian, and those without horns have du (stomach). Another theory states that the thick fleshy part of the stomach is called xian. Also, the Collection of Refined Words (Boya) refers to it as xian. The Explanations of Terms (Shiwen) states that xian is pronounced xian. It also refers to a place name. Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Account of the Xiongnu states: arrived at Xianlei to establish a border.
