Approaching Elegance (Erya), Explanation of Domestic Animals: A horse with mixed reddish and white hair is called a xia.
Commentary: This refers to the reddish-white horse of today. Tong means red.
Green Wave Magazine (Qingbo Zazhi): The Green Cloud Xia refers to the whorls of hair on the bodies of horses in the stables; the color is greenish like clouds or sunset, but even though the horse is considered valuable, it cannot conceal the ugliness of the hair whorl.
