According to the Approaching Elegance (Erya), in the section Explaining Ancient Words (Shigu), si means to wait. In the Biography of Jia Yi from the Former Han History (Hanshu), it is written: wait for punishment in Changsha. The commentary states: si is the ancient form of the character for wait (si). The entry is further noted in the Radical: Person (rén) section, under the seventh stroke.
