According to the Rhyme Dictionary (Guangyun), it is pronounced shan. It means beautiful. Another interpretation is to slander or mock. In the Table of Feudal Lords of Different Surnames in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan), it is written that the Qin Dynasty acted solely out of selfishness, considered itself wise, and mocked the three dynasties of Xia, Shang, and Zhou.
