According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced shi. The name of a type of bamboo. Also, according to the Extensive Dictionary of Rhymes (Guangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced chi. A clothes rack. According to the Literary Expositor (Erya), specifically the section on vessels, a bamboo pole is called a shi. The commentary notes that any clothes rack made from a bamboo pole is called a shi. Also, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is used interchangeably with a variant form. Also, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced chi. According to the Regional Speech (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, it refers to a small table placed in front of a couch. In the regions of Zhao and Wei, this is called a shi.
