Pronounced she. The name of a river. In the Commentary on the Water Classic (Shuijing), it is noted that the Yangtze River has an opening to a lake on the left; the water connects to Tai Lake and flows further east to join the mouth of the She River.
Also pronounced nie. Same meaning as above.
Also pronounced ni. Describing the appearance of rain and dew as she-nie.
In the Mountain and River Odes (Shanchuan Song) of the Luxuriant Gems of the Spring and Autumn Annals (Chunqiu Fanlu), it is written: Small ones can be used as boats or vehicles for floating. The commentary notes that she refers to something similar to a bamboo raft.
